Market Your Self-Published Book

One of the most exciting things I do is self-publish books. A few months ago I wrote a couple of Kindle books. I got one uploaded before having a computer crash and losing a lot of drafts. Talk about a set back. But all things work together for the good, right?

The lesson to me was to get on with it when I get a book completed. Get it published and up it where the public can find it. The last book I published was Bold Creativity.  I wrote it as a two-part series on creativity for the professional person in business. It’s only $2.99 o Kindle to take a look if that’s an area of interest.

But what about you? Are you putting your words on paper, getting them published and letting the world enjoy them? If not, it might be time for you to consider this idea. One of the best ways to start promoting yourself as a professional is to publish. It doesn’t have to be a long book. The Bold Creativity is only about 51 pages, and some books on Kindle or ebooks are even shorter.

That means you don’t have to write a lot. Just go for quality over quantity. After it gets written you want people to find it. Here are a few good marketing ideas to bring your written work to the light.

1: HARO

Get on the “Help a Reporter Out (HARO)” list. I really like this list and have put in requests for speakers on my radio show, Seasoned Women Health Radio, and answered requests from reporters for a speaker. This site is often overlooked because people aren’t quite sure how to use it. Go over there and study some of the requests. See how many you could fit. You’d be surprised. Be prepared to send a .pdf copy of your book or an excerpt if you want to discuss this online. HARO is a great opportunity to get the word out about what you’re doing.

2. Promote Yourself

As a business professional you can’t be shy about promoting yourself. If you have book to share, you need to be proud of it. That means letting people know what you have to offer. If you publish a Kindle book or a soft cover using CreateSpace you will have an Amazon page. That’s pretty big. I have probably three or four already and have a goal to get several more up this year. Set your goal to get an  Amazon page if you don’t have one by publishing your book. Then start blogging, talking, speaking, and doing everything else you can to get the word out and ASK people to buy.

3. Write Your Own Book Review

First of all, write a dynamic book review on your own site on Amazon. That’s a huge place for eyeballs to possibly see your book. I say “possibly” because you have to drive traffic there to get readers.  So start talking it up alright?  Go to book review sites and get your book uploaded. Many of these sites are for authors who want to self promote.  Then of course, write another powerful self review. Here are two sites for book reviews. I haven’t had a chance to review all of them but you can check them out. If you find out how to get on one of them let us know in the comments section.

Here’s where you could actually become a reviewer for books. If you get to post your name it can drive traffic to your blog and your book.

Look up other book review sites to see where you can submit your book.

4. Donate a copy

I’ve donated a copy of my book “Yes, You CAN Succeed Online” to several silent auctions for non-profits. I usually couple that with the chance to get a 30 minutes free coaching session or maybe to review an ebook or something similar.  This has been a great way to get some notoriety as well as new clients.

5. So Some Speaking

It’s not too difficult to be a speaker at local women’s groups or business clubs. Most are looking for new speakers each month.  As part of your talk, take your book to sell. I used to gather business cards by doing a drawing for my book. But I found that people won’t buy a copy until the drawing because they might win the book. Then the meeting is over and they leave. Instead, I announce I have my new book with me for sale at the beginning of my talk. Someone will usually be wiling to go around selling the book while you speak. Then do a drawing for a free business strategy session or another item. Works much better to increase book sales!

These are some of ways I’ve tried to make book sales that have worked. You have to get exposure for your book to generate sales. Don’t expect your sales to come to you. With self-publishing, you really do have to hustle and create buzz to get things going.

What have you done to promote your book? Leave some ideas in the comments below.

Is Your Business Giving You the Cash Flow You Desire?

Have you started to make the income in your business you desire?  Are you actually making any sales at all?  I know how frustrating it can be to try to get a business moving on the Internet.   A lot of online business advisers will lead you to believe that it is very easy to be successful working on the Internet.  While some people can find fast success, most businesses take hard work and a decent period of time to make real money.

This is similar to what it takes to get a business started offline.  I worked with the Small Business Administration (SBA) for many years helping entrepreneurs to get their business going.  The major document required for business start-up was the business plan.  Not only did I help entrepreneurs prepare their plan through the SBA but I also taught business students how to create these real-life documents.  So I really understand how important it is to create a business plan to forecast the potential success of a business.

But after years of working with others and with my own companies I realize that there are a few steps that need to be taken even before writing the business plan to be sure you have the best potential for real success in business.  Doing these steps will also give you the best potential to generate cash flow as quickly as possible in the business.

I’ll fill you in on some of those first steps in the upcoming teleseminar scheduled for this Tuesday, May 21, at 10 a.m. PST.  We’ll only have 30 minutes at this time so be sure to get on the line on time.

Register for the call on the FREE Teleseminar page.  If you can’t make, I’ll send you the link to the recording afterwards and you’ll have a week to listen in.  After that, the recording will be in the NACWIB members area.

Do You Have Good Cash Flow?

Cash flow is what all business people want.  That’s a fact.  If you are operating a business that is not making money you will not be in business for long.  Unfortunately, getting the cash to flow in your business may not be happening as much as you want. That means you have a problem that needs to be analyzed and adjusted as quickly as possible.

The question of why this is happening (the lack of cash flow that is) doesn’t have just one answer. It would take looking at your particular business operation to provide specific suggestions.  But the most obvious reason would be a lack of adequate sales to bring in enough money for you to experience a profit.  Or you might actually be making sales yet can’t seem to pay your bills and realize a profit.  This could be from not earning enough to cover expenses even though money is coming into the business.

What if you can’t seem to make any sales or not enough to make a difference?  Questions you might need to ask are, are you marketing to the right target market?   Are you using the right pricing strategies?  Are your products and services up to par? These are some of the questions that will assist you to analyze problems with cash flow in the business.

Happy Mother’s Day!

It's Mother's Day! If you are a mother, Happy Mother's Day to you. If
you still have your mother in your life, do something to honor her today.

This is a bittersweet day for me. As a mother and grandmother I praise
God for the blessing of my son, daughter-in-love and grandchild. How
sweet it was to receive a card and gift they made to honor me and
show their love.

Yet, I miss my mother and grandmother today too. I know I will
never stop missing these women who were the loves of my life even
though I know they are all now in the arms of our Lord.

The Bible has many examples of mothers, showing the importance God
places on them and their influence in the life of their children. Some
of the most famous Bible mothers include Sarah, the mother of Issac,
Elizabeth the mother of John the Baptist, and Mary the mother of Jesus.
Some of the many mothers not spoken of as often are those of the kings
of Judah and Israel. They are mentioned throughout the books of 1 & 2
Kings as influencing their child to be a good king or a bad king.

This is one day to set aside time to consider the mother in your life.
If you are the mother, it is the time to allow others to do something
special for you.

If you don't have a mother to spend time with today, consider spending
time with a woman who may be all alone. Share Christ's love with her
and let her know she has a special place in His heart.

Are You Procrastinating?

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men”  Colossians 3:23

Getting stuck is such a frustrating feeling.  Sometimes, it seems that my mind is so full of ideas and thoughts that I can’t move forward; I’m just stuck.  It doesn’t help to keep looking at the wonderfully creative websites of others, or see their programs or wonder why they came up with ideas I think I should have had.

But that’s no excuse.  Getting stuck is no one’s fault but my own.  The real name for the condition if “procrastination.”  Yes, I said it – not getting started doing what I’m supposed to do.  Not working on my business goals, not setting up the teleseminar that needs to be scheduled for next week, not wanting to think about the articles I need to publish to help with my marketing.  I get stuck, want to blame it on the fact that others are getting their work done and then end the day without reaching my goals.

Not good – can’t let this happen.

That’s exactly why I made myself stay up late tonight to make this blog post.  It’s time to move ahead with goals.  Are you letting yourself get stuck?  Do you have every excuse in the book to keep yourself from just getting stated?

There’s no secret about what to do. The answer is to just do it – get started. You have goals to reach.  Start working towards your goals as working for the Lord – not for others – not for you – but for your God.
